I was 17 years old, never been away from home .. and they dropped me in this miserable old WWII camp (with it’s old wooden buildings), where the weather went from an 80 degree summer day PT course to a sub-zero 10 mile march and camp out (all within a 24 hour period).

Of course, Rattle Snake Hill and it’s 12 mile map reading and infiltration course was thrown in just for the hell of it …..
(I never had to use a topological map ever again).
